Competition: Best Microscopy Image Award (SDM2024)

At the 5th Slovene Microscopy Symposium (SDM24), which took place on May 16 and 17, 2024 in Rogla, a competition was held for the best microscopic image. The cover features an award-winning image in the field of materials science. It is a complex microstructural study of welds of two high-strength Al alloys (Al-Cu-Mg and Al-Cu-Mg-Zr). The picture shows a detail of a crystal structural alloy with parallel defects, aquired in the HAADF technique on the new “state of the art” scanning transmission electron microscope Spectra 300. TEM preparation of the sample and analysis is the author’s work of Sandra Drev.
